HUNTERSVILLE, NC – The Sisters of Mercy of North Carolina Foundation has awarded a $25,000 grant to the Hope House Foundation of Huntersville. The grant will be used to purchase household items and appliances for the Hope House. These include bed frames, mattresses, bedding, towels, window blinds and kitchen supplies. Commercial grade appliances such as washers and dryers will also be purchased for both levels of the house.
According to Hope House Foundation President and Founder, Dr. Lee Beth Lindquist, the Foundation received a Certificate of Occupancy in February 2009 and Hope House is now being prepared to accept its initial residents. Purchased in 2004, Hope House was originally built in 1975, and for the past three years has undergone extensive renovations to accommodate homeless women and women with children into a 4,000 square foot, 2-level home. The majority of these renovations were overseen and completed by members of the Lake Norman Home Builders Association, the home building industry and numerous community volunteers.
“The Sisters of Mercy recognized that there is no transitional housing available in the Lake Norman area for homeless women and children until now,” said Dr. Lindquist. “Thankfully, the Sisters of Mercy generously stepped forward with funds to help us complete the furnishing of the Hope House for its initial residents.”
Located at 15604 Northcross Drive in Huntersville, the Hope House is a 501-(c)-(3) non-profit charitable organization that will serve the growing needs in this region for services to homeless women and children. In addition to providing housing up to six months for an estimated 60 to 80 displaced women and children annually, residents will have access to medical treatment and a variety of support and educational services to enable them to become productive and self-sufficient.
